General information about ICON White Spot Treatment
With ICON White Spot Treatment, we can target and treat unsightly white spots or mottling on the teeth that can prevent patients from looking and feeling their best.
This minimally invasive treatment can infiltrate the teeth, blending the white spots in with the rest of the teeth and restoring the natural colour and uniform appearance of the teeth. There is no drilling involved, and the treatment can usually be carried out in just one appointment. Our team will first apply a special gel to the teeth – this is designed to open up the pores before applying a small amount of tooth coloured resin. A special light will then be used to harden the resin in place, restoring the natural colour of the teeth to the patient.

This relatively common occurrence can be caused and affected by a number of factors. One of the major contributors when it comes to the appearance of white spots or mottling of the teeth is high fluoride resulting in fluorosis. It can also be caused by a loss of minerals in the enamel of the tooth and some patients also experience it after having fixed braces removed. In these cases, it will have been caused by a lapse in hygiene care. In some rarer instances, white spots can occur due to trauma having occurred as a baby which then causes molar incisal hypoplasia.
These white spots are often confused for staining and some patients try to remove or diminish them through teeth whitening treatments. Such treatments will not work however, as the white spots will still remain lighter than the rest of the teeth even after the teeth whitening treatment. To rid the teeth of white spots and mottling, we therefore recommend ICON White Spot Treatment.
